Stoney's Seafood House is for sale on Broome Island, Maryland. It should be renamed The Blue Cat

Reading the reviews on yelp I discovered that this place had very good ratings until either ownership or management changed an it turned it into a culinary nightmare. The location for the restaurant is beautiful. 

I mean people would have their weddings done here at the restaurant. A beautiful location to have a wedding.

This restaurant was open for 31 years, famous at one point for its fantastic crab cakes, but finally went bust because the owner said he could not find people who wanted to work there. If you carefully read those YELP and Tripadvisor reviews you will see the customers saying the service was awful, that no one cared, and lamented how a favorite restaurant had gone into decline and the food was beyond terrible. The restaurant is located out in the boondocks. It is a long drive to get to this place. Anyhow I was thinking about Maryland's problem invasive fish that are destroying crabbing and oyster fishing. That fish is the Blue Cat Fish. Now the Blue cat is the largest of the all the catfish in the USA. They can grow to 100 lbs, even more. Here is a fascinating but educational video on the Blue Cat problem in Cheasapeake Bay.

   

They are great eating, but people in the Northeast look down upon them because they have been indoctrinated with the higher price of the fish the better the quality. Blue Catfish are a low price seafood item so have a tendency to be shunned. The Blue Cat is like the "spam of the sea" so to speak. With Stoney's being for sale it would be the perfect test market to have a restaurant that specializes in Blue Cat. It can be cooked in many ways from frying, blackening, grilling, baking and it tastes really good. They are very popular in the south as a sport and table fish. The new name of the restaurant should be The Blue Cat . Due to the fact it is hard to get help to stay because of the remoteness and lack of social opportunities my suggestion would be they institute free employee housing by building the paper houses designed by Architect Shigeru Ban. The Paper tubes are waterproof and fire proof by the way. Check out this video.

 

They erected this paper house in 15 hours. For employees why not have a 3 month internship rotation of students majoring in tourism and travel and culinary arts that way the employee does not go stark raving mad being in such an isolated place but also getting valuable and practical experience working in the Tourism and Culinary industry they chose. Just a suggestion.

The property is huge, 6,330 square feet. Look at this property aerial photo with property lines and description of buildings.

It has a 28 slip marina where Stoney's drew in over 2,500 people to watch the boat docking competition. They could have a blue cat fishing tournament as well as a Blue Cat Bikini Contest, a Blue Cat eating competition, as well as concerts. I have already mentioned the wedding business and catering. There is a building on site for all retail and restaurant related clothing, souvenirs etc. On site they have house which was a B&B and two Apartments but the house should be the Chef's quarters and the apartments for more employee housing I think. It has a pond and garden

All in all this is one great opportunity that needs to be taken to make this Broome Island property (formerly Stoney's) fun again. As I mentioned previously the property is for sale
