The historic OLD MARTINA'S HALL for sale in Taos, New Mexico
The OLD MARTINA'S HALL is for sale in Taos, New Mexico. It is a beautiful adobe restaurant building.
This is the restaurant where actor Dennis Hopper, who was a local resident. would take his fellow actor friends like Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, and Janis Joplin to hang out to eat, drink, and dance. Look at this beautiful stage and ballroom. So much nostalgia and history. There are several rooms for dining. There is also a balcony to dine on above one of the other dining areas. The bar area is pretty cool as well. Notice the Vigas in the photo above. Vigas are the wooden beams supporting the weight of the roof in Adobe Architecture. Also notice the curved and stylish Kiva fireplace in the far right hand corner of the photo. There is an outside dining area as well with a beautiful view of the backside of the historic local Church. The lobby or waiting room looks stylish as well as this room People often ask why the bright blue paint is used on a lot of Adobe buildings for the doors, window frames, and gates and the reason for that is the color blue was believed to ward off "evil spirits". If you scroll back up to the pictures of the exterior of the restaurant you will see the bright blue trim on the window frames, etc. or just look below. Now 70 miles to the south of Taos is the city of Santa Fe. Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in America. It was a city founded 10 years before the pilgrims sailed over from England to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Santa Fe has had 5 different government/countries in control of it at one time or another. The Spanish, The French, The Native Americans, The Confederates, and the United States. Very rich in history, New Mexico Governor Lew Wallace wrote the best selling novel of the 19th Century "BEN HUR" which of course was eventually made into an Academy Award winning movie with actor Charlton Heston. Not to be outdone, Taos has author Fredric Brown write his incredible noir book THE FAR CRY about a murder mystery in the Taos area. It is one phenomenal read and it sure makes me want to go back and visit Taos. I would love to see a good movie based on the book.Anyhow I digress, this historic restaurant needs to be preserved and operational. It had a very high YELP rating and would love to see it continue in its capacity as an outstanding dining option.
